Susin Nielsen is a highly acclaimed Canadian author, known for her work in young adult and children's novels. She has received numerous awards for her writing and is highly regarded for her storytelling abilities. Nielsen gained popularity for her young adult book, "The Reluctant Journal of Henry K Larsen," which is set in the aftermath of a school shooting. This book earned Nielsen the 2013 Book of the Year Award from the Library Association of Canada.\n \nNielsen began her writing career by contributing to the Degrassi series of novels, originally started by Kit Hood, and wrote scripts for both the TV series and book series of this franchise. She has written for over 20 Canadian TV series and her first young adult novel, "Word Nerd," was published in 2008 to critical acclaim. This book, along with her second novel, "Dear George Clooney: Please Marry My Mom," won multiple Young Readers’ Choice Awards.
Nielsen's third novel, "The Reluctant Journal of Henry K. Larsen," was published in August 2012 and went on to win the Governor General’s Literary Award, the Ruth and Sylvia Schwartz Award, the Canadian Library Association’s Children’s Book of the Year Award, and several Young Readers’ Choice Awards. Renowned author Wally Lamb named it his top YA pick for 2012 in his “First Annual Wally Awards,” and Rolling Stone magazine included it in their list of “Top 40 Best YA Novels.” Nielsen's books have been translated into multiple languages and her new novel, "We Are All Made of Molecules," was published in Canada, the US and the UK in Spring of 2015. She currently resides in Vancouver with her family and two cats.
